[37C] – the end of a long journey, practicing how to go back to the beginning.
Thirty-seven songs are finally completed. Two years after the regular subscription project [37], which releases 37 songs that are not related to each other, the entire journey is finally completed with the release of its last album [37C] on November 22.
Compared to [37A], which tried various genres, [37B], which expressed joy and sorrow without mercy, and [37X], which reinterpreted existing ideas, there are bright songs in the last album [37C], but overall, it is somewhat lyrical and touching. The reason is probably that the feelings that the band had in heart were revealed as they recalled the regrets, pain, hatred, longing, and reasons why they started this reckless project in the first place.
Songs such as “Free Fall” and “Head On the Ground” are good examples. The beat of the song “Free Fall,” which contains the feeling of wanting to overcome the wounds of the heart directly or indirectly received by others, is as strong as a heartbeat. “Head On the Ground” contains a spiritual message that asks itself questions and seeks enlightenment about our lives, as if they were enigmatic, to understand the daily reality. In addition, “Christmas Sunset” expressed a longing for the sunset in India, which the band visited on Christmas Day in 2015.
There have been numerous experiments in the course of project [37], and new stories and unexpected sounds have also been discovered. It sure was a difficult time during the whole process, but it is believed that it was a process of practicing to grind oneself to find the true identity of the band, just like how they first started the band in the winter of 2011, without giving up for a single moment.

The reason why so many people make the deal with the devil and choose to work within the idol system is because it’s very slim pickings outside of that system for nearly everybody in Korea, just ask Korean Indie who probably has to deal with these people begging him for food scraps on a weekly basis. So I’m going to be grateful for this video even though I’m colourblind and it gives me a headache, because it’s honestly impressive that some independent Korean artists can afford music videos at all. Once I’ve taken some ibuprofen and paracetamol and given it an hour or so to kick in, I find that it’s not really that bad a visual accompaniment to the fantastic song which has some great instrumentation, a killer second chorus section and is by far the best thing this group have ever done.
The latest instalment in the critically acclaimed album series, “37” by Love X Stereo, “37C” is one of those albums that will make you retire from your music discovery efforts for a while, and just sprawl and bask in the peace of knowing that it’ll be a very long time before any electronic rock release will come even close to it sonically, lyrically, conceptually, production-wise or in any other way. If you are not familiar with the unstoppable South Korean force that is Love X Stereo then this album will overload your speakers and send your music player into a state of pandemonium that will render all its algorithms useless. It blazes a trail of its own even in the band’s already impressive and exceptionally unique repertoire. The minute you hit the play button it’s like you are sucked into your own ear drums and listening to the world from inside your head – it’s hard to explain, but the only way you’ll be able to find comfort after listening to this album, apart from listening to it again over and over is to somehow find a way to turn back the hands of time and get sucked back into your mum’s uterus for another nine months in the womb that never let you down even once.
37C is Love X Stereo’s exploration of their own unique sound, which also happens to sound at times like an exploration of space. The duo takes their hallmark elements into different genres of music, all with great success.
